The Bolsa Chica Conservancy’s fifth annual Birdathon is Saturday at the Bolsa Chica wetlands near Huntington Beach.
The free event includes bird walks led by experts at 8 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Also, competing teams of experienced birders will head into the wetlands and the city to identify as many bird species as possible. Prizes will be awarded for the most unusual and for the most species sighted.
Phil Smith, the conservancy’s executive director, said the event combines the educational and tourism values of birding in Huntington Beach.
Tours begin at the Bolsa Chica Conservancy Interpretive Center, 3842 Warner Ave. at Pacific Coast Highway. Information or reservations: Smith at (714) 846-1114.
