Obituaries : Harvey Hancock; Nixon Campaign Manager
Harvey Hancock, 96, journalist, aviation industry executive and onetime campaign manager for Richard M. Nixon. Born in Utah on Jan. 2, 1900, Hancock served as an infantryman in World War I before graduating in 1925 from the University of Utah, were he was a football star. After 10 years as a newspaper reporter and editor in Salt Lake City, he worked for more than a decade as an official with United Airlines and Pan American World Airways. In 1950, he was named Northern California manager for Nixon’s successful senatorial campaign. Two years later, he managed the Eisenhower-Nixon presidential campaign in the northern half of the state.
