Woman Dies, Teenagers Hurt When Man Fires Into Crowd
Police are searching for a gunman who killed a 22-year-old woman and wounded two teenagers in a street corner shooting early Saturday in Santa Monica.
The motive for the shooting in the 2100 block of Delaware Avenue is unknown and detectives are not sure whether the attack was gang-related, said Sgt. Gary Gallinot of the Santa Monica Police Department.
Betty Casillas was among a large group of people congregating on the street after 1 a.m. when a man approached and opened fire. Casillas was hit several times in the chest. A boy and girl, both 17, suffered grazing wounds to their feet.
Friends rushed all three to Santa Monica Hospital Medical Center, where Casillas died and the two other victims were treated and released.
