SAN FRANCISCO--A beloved red wine is celebrated at the Zinfandel Tasting and Regional Winery Exhibits, 2-5 p.m. Jan. 27. More than 85 wineries pour 1994 barrel samples, current releases and library Zinfandels at the event, held in Herbst Pavilion at Fort Mason Center. NAPA VALLEY--The third annual International Mustard Celebration honors the spicy, golden condiment with special events, Feb. 7-11. The World Championships of Mustard, featuring a culinary competition, buffet dinner, live jazz and an auction, is 7 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Culinary Institute of America ($75). The Mustard Mile Parade is 11 a.m. Feb. 10 on Lincoln Avenue, Calistoga. The Season’s Extravaganza, featuring food, wine and beer, cooking demonstrations, entertainment and arts and crafts, is 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Feb. 10-11 at the Napa County Fairgrounds, Calistoga. HOPLAND--Bring your favorite Valentine to the Red Wine and Chocolate Spectacular, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Feb. 10-11 at the Fetzer Tasting Room, 13500 South U.S. 101. Zinfandel, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are showcased, along with chocolate, live music and specialty foods. $5 admission includes a commemorative glass and five tasting tickets. KERNVILLE--This mountain community celebrates its history during Whiskey Flat Days, Feb. 16-19. The area, known as “Whiskey Flat” during the Gold Rush, hosts a variety of activities and festivities around town, located one hour east of Bakersfield on California 178. Among the events: a parade at 11 a.m. Saturday; a Wild West Rodeo, 1 p.m. Saturday-Sunday, and a carnival, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. daily. Also scheduled: pony and small train rides, a pet parade and more.
