Church Gets OK for Additional Parking
A church whose property borders Los Alamitos Race Course has won city approval to expand its parking lot.
The City Council this week approved the request of Grace Church, 5100 Cerritos Ave., which had asked permission to add 3.5 acres of parking. The land, which up to now has been used for racetrack parking, will provide 325 new spaces for the church.
“The proposed acquisition of the race course [parking] property by Grace Church should not prevent the race course from meeting its parking requirements,” said Chris Kelly, the city’s director of community development.
A church representative told the council that Grace Church will allow the racetrack to use the church’s parking spaces for overrun.
The council’s approval stipulates 35 conditions that the church must meet, including landscaping.
