Man Gets 15 Years in Fatal Battery of Girl, 3

OLATHE, Kan. — A man received 15 years in prison for killing a 3-year-old girl by slamming her head on the floor after she soiled her diaper.
Darrell B. Curran, 46, of Lenexa pleaded no contest to murder in the death of Cynthia Vaughn in 1994. He was sentenced Thursday.
He initially told police the girl had fallen, but later said he “snapped” and banged her head on the floor three or four times.
He was in anger-control counseling at the time as part of his probation in a battery case involving the child’s mother, who has since divorced him.
