Bosnia Premier Quits in Party Dispute

SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina — Bosnian Prime Minister Haris Silajdzic announced Sunday that he will not retain his position in the country’s new central government being formed on the basis of a peace accord signed in Paris last month.
Hasan Muratovic, in charge of relations with the United Nations, is likely to be the new prime minister, central committee members of the ruling Party of Democratic Action, or SDA, said.
Silajdzic, 50, had been locked in a procedural dispute with the SDA, of which he is nominally a member, over a recent parliamentary vote limiting the number of ministers in the new government.
The Paris accord, which ended the 3 1/2-year war, calls for three governments in Bosnia: a central republic and two subsidiary entities--a Muslim-Croat federation and a Serb republic. The formation of the central republic and the Muslim-Croat federation had been stalled by the dispute between Silajdzic and the SDA.
Silajdzic said he will remain in office until the next parliament session later this month.
