For the fifth year in a row, Fullerton Union High School has won a Golden Bell award.

Given annually by the California School Board Assn., the award recognizes exemplary and innovative programs across the state.

Fullerton Union received the award this year for its Renaissance Program, which rewards students for outstanding academic achievement or perfect attendance.

The program was initiated by Assistant Principal Pat Putnam in 1990. Local businesses have donated about $41,000 a year for student recognition awards, officials said.
