District Seeks Recruiting Probe of Oxnard’s Lynch-Cole
The Oxnard Union High School District board has asked Superintendent Bill Studt to investigate charges of recruiting by Oxnard High girls’ basketball Coach Ryle Lynch-Cole, board President Steve Stocks said Tuesday.
The charges were made last week in a strongly worded letter signed by all seven rival Channel League girls’ coaches.
The board is scheduled to meet a week from today, but Stocks said he was unsure whether Studt would have a report by then.

Cal State Northridge President Blenda J. Wilson has asked for further study on two plans for the school to make the additions necessary to join the Big Sky Conference, but a final decision is still expected by the end of this week.
Paul Bubb, athletic director, and Ron Kopita, vice president in charge of student affairs, met with Wilson on Monday and presented three options. Wilson was interested in two of them but wanted additional budgetary information, Kopita said.
Neither Bubb nor Kopita would give details on the two options. Kopita said he wanted a final plan to be announced before the start of the spring semester next week.
Northridge was invited to join the Big Sky starting in the fall. As conditions of its acceptance, the school must add more than 40 football scholarships, create women’s golf and men’s tennis teams and renovate some facilities, all while sticking to a tight budget.
The Pierce College baseball team will play host to an inaugural golf tournament in honor of Pete Kokon, a longtime Valley sportswriter, on Feb. 12 at Calabasas Country Club.
