Simpson Questioned About Glove, Cap Found Near Bodies

O.J. Simpson was questioned Friday at a West Los Angeles law office about a glove and a knit cap found near the bloody bodies of his ex-wife and her friend, according to attorneys who are questioning the former football star in a civil wrongful death suit stemming from the murders.

Simpson has now been questioned for five days, but the lawyers said his deposition will not be concluded next week because his chief attorney, Robert C. Baker, has a scheduling conflict.

John Quinlan Kelly, an attorney for the family of Nicole Brown Simpson, said attorneys showed the former football star photos of the glove and cap and asked Simpson what he knew about them.

Kelly said the first answers the lawyers had to get from Simpson on the items were: “Were they his? And if he had something similar . . . where are they now?” As he and the other lawyers have done all week, Kelly declined to describe Simpson’s responses.

In a related development, Simpson’s lawyers filed a motion asking that in the event Simpson loses the case that no punitive damages be imposed against him. Simpson’s lawyers contend that punitive damages would constitute punishment and that any punishment of him for conduct on which he already has been tried and acquitted would constitute double jeopardy and violate his rights to due process of law. A hearing on the issue was scheduled for Feb. 28.
