OPPOSED: Palmdale’s Pete Knight opposes same-sex marriages, but the Los Angeles City Council begs to differ. On a 10-1 vote Friday, the council passed a motion to fight Knight’s state Assembly bill. The measure would prevent California from recognizing such marriages. . . . “When the gay and lesbian community is attacked in this way, all of us are diminished,” said sponsoring Councilman Mike Feuer.
HOT RODS: L.A.’s supervisors, meanwhile, have a plan to protect the county’s northern reaches. The problem: a bill in Congress that would send radioactive nuclear fuel rods rolling through the Antelope Valley on trains headed for Nevada--for 30 years. . . . “This is a bad idea,” says Supervisor Mike Antonovich, who represents the area. And now the full board opposes it.
UNPOPULAR OAKS: Woodland Hills residents want “Sherman Oaks” uprooted. Producers hope to shoot the racy cable sitcom in two quake-damaged houses along Queen Victoria Road. Homeowners want them gone. . . . “The only acceptable thing is for them to be out of here,” says James Gardner (B1).
SHOE BUSINESS: This just in from the Menendez brothers’ second murder trial--Lyle Menendez wears size 10 1/2 shoes. Marta Cano, Jose Menendez’s sister, testified Friday in Van Nuys Superior Court that Jose’s feet were one size smaller than son Lyle’s. . . . Defense attorney Leslie Abramson was seeking to rebut the Nov. 3 testimony of Jose’s secretary, Marzie Eisenberg, who said that Lyle claimed to be wearing his father’s shoes during his parents’ memorial service.
