SAN CLEMENTE — U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested two brothers within 15 minutes of one another at a checkpoint here Sunday night, confiscating more than 87 pounds of marijuana from hidden compartments in their cars, an agent said.
The Redondo Beach brothers, whose names were not released, were each driving north on the San Diego Freeway with the marijuana loads, valued at about $70,000, said Supervisory Border Patrol Agent Al Francis.
The first brother was stopped about 10 p.m. and referred to a secondary inspection, where agents recovered 43 1/2 pounds of marijuana, Francis said.
The second brother was stopped 15 minutes later and also referred to a secondary inspection, where agents recovered 44 pounds of marijuana from his car, Francis said.
The marijuana was under the rear seat of one car and in a side wall compartment of the other car, Francis said.
