Earle M. Jorgensen Co.: The Brea metals distributor incurred a net loss of $500,000 for the third fiscal quarter, which included a $2.7 million charge for a projected higher tax rate. For the third quarter a year ago, the company reported a profit of $6.4 million. Revenue for the quarter ended Jan. 3 dropped 2% to $254.7 million from $258.8 million.
For the nine-month period, the company lost $8.6 million, which included a one-time charge of $12.8 million for work-force reduction and asset write-downs. The company earned $13.3 million for the same period a year earlier. Revenue increased 3% to $764 million from $744.3 million.
