Fremont, Crenshaw 1-2 in Seedings
As expected, the Fremont boys’ basketball team was awarded the top seeding in the City Section 4-A playoffs.
The nine-member selection committee, made up of coaches, athletic directors and section Commissioner Barbara Fiege, awarded Fremont (23-3 overall, 16-0 in the Southeastern Conference) the No. 1 seeding, followed by defending champion Crenshaw and Palisades, one of six Coastal Conference teams to make the field.
Regulations assuring all league champions a top-eight seeding forced some top teams into lower rankings, making for some interesting opening-round matchups. Two of the best are Locke (18-6) at Banning (14-2) and Fairfax (17-8) at Palisades (22-2).
The Crenshaw girls’ team (17-7, 9-1) earned the top spot in the 4-A bracket just ahead of No. 2 Westchester (23-1, 10-0) because the committee felt the Cougars played a tougher schedule.
