Southeast : 3 Suspects Arrested After Robbing Bank
Three suspects in a string of 16 bank heists led Long Beach Police on a brief manhunt Thursday afternoon before they were arrested in posh Naples.
An undercover officer blockaded the alleged getaway car as the suspects fled a robbery at Harbor Bank in Belmont Shore, police said. The officer, stationed there on a tip from the FBI, opened fire when the driver tried to run him down, police said.
A shot through the car’s windshield caused its horn to stick, attracting the attention of passers-by as the car escaped into the canaled streets of Naples. Residents there helped police pinpoint the suspects within half an hour of the robbery.
Police said the suspects--two men and a women--match the description of a team wanted for two recent hits at the same bank since December. The FBI has also linked the two Los Angeles men to robberies in Los Angeles and Orange counties beginning late last year.
