1 Teenager Killed, 1 Wounded in Gang-Related Shooting
A gang-related shooting in front of a Boyle Heights apartment complex late Sunday claimed the life of one teenager and left another wounded, police said.
Martin Elias, 17, was standing in front of the complex in the 300 block of North Fickett Street--a popular gang hangout--when rival gang members walked up and opened fire, said Hollenbeck Homicide Det. Bill Eagleson.
“He was there with his brother and a cousin and they were sort of in the middle of the apartment complex,” Eagleson said. “They were in the parking lot in the front. . . . One of their homeboys lives in that location.”
Elias was taken to the County-USC Medical Center, where he died of his wounds, Eagleson said.
Also shot was 18-year-old Denise Galvan, who was talking with Elias and others at the time. Galvan was listed in fair condition Monday at County-USC with a gunshot wound to the left buttock, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Eagleson said police expect to make an arrest in connection with the killing by the end of the week.
