At Every Turn, Washington Benefits From Taft Miscues
That the Taft High girls’ basketball team had 36 turnovers during its 56-40 loss to Washington in the City Section 4-A Division quarterfinals Wednesday night was enough to cost the Toreadors the game.
That 16 of those turnovers came in the fourth quarter guaranteed the loss at Washington.
The Toreadors (20-1) were down, 39-37, with 6 minutes 30 seconds left in the game, but turned the ball over on three consecutive possessions as the Generals (21-4) increased their lead to 43-37.
Vanessa Dunn, who had 14 points and 15 rebounds for Taft, then hit a jump shot that trimmed the lead to four points.
But that’s as close as the Toreadors would get. They committed turnovers on eight consecutive possessions.
Monia Calhoun had 14 points and 10 rebounds for Taft.
