Single-Minded CSUN Sweeps
The streaking Cal State Northridge baseball team swept a doubleheader Wednesday from Cal Baptist, 9-4, 10-1, at Northridge.
The damage was done in 90-foot increments as Northridge batters produced 22 singles. Kurt Airoso’s double was the only extra-base hit for the Matadors (17-1). Airoso was three for four with three runs and three runs batted in.
Benny Flores pitched four shutout innings in winning the first game, and Evan Howland allowed two hits and one run to win the second.
Cal State Long Beach 3, Pepperdine 2--Kevin Moore’s two-run triple triggered a three-run fourth inning for Long Beach in a nonconference game at Malibu.
Long Beach (10-5), ranked 20th by Baseball America, took a 3-0 lead when Moore scored on a wild pitch by starter Lance Jordan (0-1).
Pepperdine (7-9) scored two runs in the fifth, on a double by Mark Lopez and a sacrifice fly by David Rosato that scored Lopez from third.
