Walker Gets Game Winner for Mater Dei

Robin Walker’s single in the bottom of the 10th inning gave Mater Dei, the top-ranked team in Orange County, a 2-1 victory over sixth-ranked Fountain Valley in a nonleague softball game Thursday at Mile Square Park.
Walker’s single drove in Kelsey Kollen from second with two outs for Mater Dei (6-0). Marissa Young pitched a two-hitter for the Monarchs, striking out 21. She struck out the first nine hitters she faced.
Kollen, who had three hits, led off the bottom of the first with a home run to give Mater Dei a 1-0 lead. Fountain Valley (2-2) tied it in the top of the seventh when Lindsay Collins scored from third after an errant pickoff attempt.
In the Laguna Hills tournament:
Rosary 5, Mission Viejo 0 (6, time)--Senior Julie Luna pitched a no-hitter, her first of the season, for Rosary (5-2) in a consolation game. She had five strikeouts and the only runner reached on an error.
In nonleague baseball:
San Clemente 12, Los Amigos 5--Marcus Gardner had two hits and five RBIs and Chris Hayward pitched two hitless innings to earn the victory for the Tritons (2-3-1).
In nonleague boys’ tennis:
San Clemente 10, Estancia 8--Landis Olson and Marc Takemiya won two of three doubles sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3, for visiting San Clemente (2-5).
Santa Margarita 10, Aliso Niguel 8--Andrew Tsu swept for Santa Margarita, 6-1, 7-5, 6-2. Burt Gonzell and Tyler Verdek didn’t lose a game in doubles, sweeping, 6-0, for Aliso Niguel.
In nonleague golf:
Estancia 191, Santa Margarita 193--Ross Necessary shot par 36 at Mesa Verde to give Estancia a two-shot lead. The teams will finish the round next week at Coto de Caza.
Fountain Valley 202, Mission Viejo 219--Ryan Mills shot par 36 at Mile Square for Fountain Valley (5-1).
In nonleague girls’ swimming:
Irvine 108, Mission Viejo 62--Heidi Kraus and Morgan Hoesterey each posted Southern Section Division I qualifying times for Irvine (3-0). Kraus, who also won the 200 individual medley (2:13.20) qualified in the 500 freestyle in 5:09.67. Hoesterey qualified in the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.46.
Foothill 87, El Toro 83--Shannon Locks finished first in the 200 freestyle (2:05.01), the 500 freestyle (5:27.07) and swam the second leg on the winning 200-medley relay (2:00.94) for Foothill.
In nonleague boys’ volleyball:
Mater Dei 3, Aliso Niguel 1--Steve Almaguer and Charlie Beauregard had 11 kills each for Mater Dei, which won 15-10, 15-9, 12-15, 17-15. Brian Todd had 15 kills for Aliso Niguel.
