Northridge Works Extra to Finish Softball Sweep

Julie Sessler’s two-out 11th-inning single scored Jessica Cunningham to break a scoreless tie in the second game of a nonconference softball doubleheader Friday and give host Cal State Northridge a sweep, 7-1, 1-0, over New Mexico.
Tara Glaister (9-2) pitched all 11 innings for the Matadors (19-4), allowing five hits, striking out 10 and issuing one walk.
Jennifer Richardson (10-2) pitched a three-hitter in the first game, striking out four and walking one. She also had three hits, including a double, and drove in two runs.
Tracy Gallian had two hits in the first game, including a double, and drove in three runs for Northridge.
Pierce 2, Bakersfield 0--Maryanne May and Esmarelda Macias singled home runs in the second inning for the Brahmas (7-1-1, 3-0) in a Western State Conference game at Bakersfield.
Kelly Lovata pitched a two-hitter with five strikeouts. Only one runner advanced beyond first base for the past the Renegades (7-11, 0-3).
May, Macias and Joanne Rosales each had two hits.
MEN’S TENNIS
Pepperdine 4, Illinois 3--Troy Budgen and Brad Sceney led a doubles sweep and won their singles matches for the seventh-ranked Waves (11-5) in a nonconference match at Pepperdine.
Also winning in singles for Pepperdine was No. 1 Simon Aspelin, 6-3, 6-1.
