Re “Called Back for an Encore,” March 12: This is a story that has warmed many hearts. The millions of parents out there whose children have been motivated to care about school as the result of music instruction will all have a very emotional reaction to this story. Three cheers for Harry Hammerstedt for being someone who has the skills and sensitivity to make his students love and respect him, and three cheers for all those parents and students who stuck to their guns and publicly demanded the reinstatement of music classes.
