SACRAMENTO — State Sen. Newton R. Russell (R-Glendale) will undergo open-heart surgery, his office said Friday.
The operation was scheduled for today at Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento, said his chief of staff, Kay Lentz. She said he is expected to be away from the Capitol for three to our weeks.
Russell, 68, has been in the Senate since 1974 and was in the Assembly for 10 years before that. This is his last year in the Legislature because of term limits.
