Mass Transit
* Re “MTA Backs Subway, Light Rail,” (May 4):
Route location is less important than continuity of travel, uninterrupted by a required transfer, and the standardization of cars and track. The line through the San Fernando Valley must be a continuation and extension of the Red Line. Regardless of whether the line is above or below grade, it must be grade-separated from traffic.

* I have just returned from Berkeley, where I walked with my granddaughter in her stroller along the lovely park under the overhead Bart line. My daughter’s house is one-quarter of a block from the line, but we sleep peacefully, never hearing the Bart trains.
Los Angeles could easily build a cheap rapid transit system overhead with badly needed parks below. The parks could have both pedestrian and bike paths benefiting citizens and businesses alike.
