Tierra del Sol to Celebrate 25th Year
Tierra del Sol Foundation, a Sunland-based nonprofit organization that provides training and support to disabled people, will celebrate its 25th anniversary June 11 with theatrical performances, art exhibits and other activities.
The anniversary celebration will highlight cultural activities, training and employment services provided by the foundation to its 325 disabled clients. The occasion also will mark the opening of Tierra’s new commercial food service training kitchen.
Events will include debut performances by students in Tierra’s new theater arts programs, established recently with a $25,000 grant from a Los Angeles women’s group. The performances will include verbal and sign readings of original poetry and interpretive dance in a coffeehouse atmosphere, an exhibit of student ceramic works titled “Clays of Our Lives” and a display of other crafts and still photographs by Tierra program participants.
Tierra was founded in 1971 by parents seeking to create opportunities for their children to live productive lives. The foundation runs six training programs and two employment programs based at three campuses in Sunland, Van Nuys and Claremont. Tierra clients also volunteer in a variety of community service programs.
The anniversary celebration is free to the public. The site is wheelchair accessible.
