. . . A pilot who forgot to lower the landing gear on his small private plane escaped injury when he made a belly landing at John Wayne Airport.
The pilot, returning to the airport after discovering an open door, “got too excited and forgot to put his gear down,” a fire department spokesman said. The embarrassed pilot pleaded not to be identified.
