Rabbi and Rail Line
* Re “MTA OKs Loans, Aid if Property Owners Don’t Sue Over Tunnels,” May 23.
So the honorable Rabbi Marvin J. Sugarman, leader of a Jewish community along the Chandler Boulevard corridor, opposes above-grade rail transit through “his community.” May I remind the honorable rabbi, “his community” is only on loan from his God.
And if his true issue is safety [for] pedestrians on Sabbath, then he, being a rabbi (teacher), should have no problem instructing his flock to stay away from the tracks.
The “Valley community” and those tens of thousands who have patiently awaited this rail line can no longer be browbeat by a minority of not-in-my-backyard (NIMBYs) people who have taken the stance that they are bigger than the whole.
