FLORIDA : Officer Dismissed Over Racist Incident

A police detective who beat a black doll with a police baton in a skit at a “Good Ol’ Boy Roundup” has been fired. Fort Lauderdale Police Chief Michael Brasfield said that Don McCawley’s behavior at the roundup four years ago in Tennessee destroyed his ability to work as a police officer. McCawley had pulled a painted black doll from a hallowed-out watermelon and began beating it.
