Hyatt Plans Casino Near Las Vegas: The move is Chicago-based Hyatt Hotels Corp.’s first foray into the Nevada gambling market. Hyatt said it agreed to develop the $150-million hotel-casino with Transcontinental Properties Inc., which is building a planned $4-billion resort community just outside Las Vegas. The 500-room property will have a 10,000-square-foot casino and will occupy 25 acres of the community, called Monte Lago, on the shores of Lake Las Vegas. Under terms of the agreement, Hyatt will own a stake in the property, which will have a Mediterranean theme, and manage it. The company didn’t say how much it plans to own or invest in the project. Transcontinental Properties is a unit of Santa Barbara-based Transcontinental Corp., an investment and development company.
