Advanced Micro Warns of Loss, Sales Decline: Advanced Micro Devices Inc. announced after the close of trading that it will report a loss for its second quarter ending in June and that sales will be more than 15% less than they were for the first quarter. The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based chip maker did not give a specific estimate for the loss. AMD earned $25.3 million, or 18 cents a share, for the first quarter; sales for that period were $544.2 million. This is the fourth consecutive quarter for which AMD has warned of lower-than-expected results. It had been expected to report a net income of 7 cents a share, according to a poll of 19 analysts by Zacks Investment Research Corp. AMD said more than half the revenue decline is due to slow sales and plummeting prices of its flash memory chips. Such chips do not lose data when power is cut.
