Wiz Breezes Past D.C. United, 5-1
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Digital Takawira scored twice and Mark Chung had one goal and three assists Thursday night as the Kansas City Wiz defeated D.C. United, 5-1, in Major League Soccer.
Before 9,458 at Arrowhead Stadium, the Wiz (7-8) took a 1-0 lead in the sixth minute when Preki converted a penalty kick for his 10th goal. Richie Williams was ejected for a hand ball to set up the kick and the United (5-8) played the final 84 minutes one man short.
Takawira scored in the 28th minute on an assist from Chung, and Chung added an unassisted goal two minutes later. Mike Sorber made it 4-0 in the 35th minute.
D.C.’s Tony Sanneh scored in the 42nd minute before Takawira got the Wiz’s final goal in the 54th minute off Chung’s third assist.
D.C. plays at San Jose Sunday and Kansas City’s next game is Tuesday at New York/New Jersey.
