County Misguided in Spending Decisions
* In this day and age of concern over every cent of government spending, it’s incredible to hear that the Ventura County Board of Supervisors has paid a consultant more than $300,000 for a study regarding conversion of the runways at the Camarillo Airport to handle jet aircraft. This is an endeavor that the residents and the Camarillo City Council have repeatedly said is neither wanted nor feasible. And now the consultants have come back and said that they can’t complete their research without another $38,000.
As some of us continue to work feverishly to try to save programs that are feasible and that the residents clearly do want, it is bewildering to hear this kind of story. That money could easily have kept the very successful Adult Reading Program going for another couple of years.
Supervisors, please listen to all your constituents (not just our business community). Residents, when this item next appears on a public hearing agenda, please let the supervisors know how you want our money spent.
