NEW YORK : Officer Avoids Jail Time in Shooting

A former New York City police officer convicted of shooting another officer during a melee on a subway platform was sentenced to probation and community service. Peter Del Debbio, 34, was found guilty in March of second-degree assault in the Aug. 22, 1994, incident in which he shot Desmond Robinson, who was in plain clothes and chasing two armed teenagers.
