Troy Glaus homered, doubled twice and drove in three runs as the U.S. baseball team extended its winning streak to 33 games with a 5-1 victory over Japan at Richmond, Va.
Glaus has six hits and seven runs batted in over his last seven at-bats. In his last seven games, the designated hitter, a junior at UCLA, is 13 for 21 with 12 RBIs.
Seth Greisinger (3-0) gave up only two hits and an unearned run in 6 1/3 innings. He walked six and struck out five.
The U.S. team (12-0) scored in the second on doubles by Travis Lee and Glaus, and added a run in the third when Warren Morris singled and scored on a fielder’s choice by Lee. Glaus made it 3-0 in the fourth with a solo homer to center.
The Americans added two runs in the eighth on Glaus’ RBI double and a run-scoring single by Morris. UCLA’s Jim Parque pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
