. . . Because of higher-than-normal surf combined with a tide change and treacherous rip currents, numerous swimmers and boaters had to be rescued.
“With a low tide and a riptide, they pull everything out to sea: swimmers, Boogie boarders, sand,” Huntington Beach lifeguard John Gifford said. “Anything in its path.”
