A 39-year-old La Crescenta man was taken to Simi Valley Hospital on Saturday after he crashed his hang glider into a hill on the south side of Simi Valley.
The man, whom police would not identify, had taken off from a hill near Sequoia Avenue and Fitzgerald Road about 2:45 p.m. when he was caught in a downdraft and slammed into the side of the hill, authorities said.
The man suffered major injuries to his lower back and was taken by Ventura County sheriff’s paramedics via helicopter to Simi Valley Hospital, where he was listed in serious but stable condition, said Rob Snyder, paramedic supervisor for MedTrans Ambulance.
