Walks, Talks, Shows and Special Sales

Wednesday: A class on the fall-planted vegetable garden taught by Ralph Crane, 9:30 a.m. to noon, at the Arboretum of Los Angeles County, 301 N. Baldwin Ave., Arcadia; (818) 447-8207. Cost: $13.

Saturday: A class on growing cattleya orchids, at which each participant will pot and take home an orchid, 10 to 11 a.m., at the Irvine Arboretum, Campus Drive, one block south of Jamboree Road, UC Irvine. For reservations, which are required, call (714) 824-5833. Cost: $25.

Saturday-Sept. 29: An orchid fair with displays, plants for sale and experts on hand to answer questions, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Quail Botanical Gardens, 230 Quail Gardens Drive, Encinitas; (619) 436-3036. Admission: $3 per car.
