City to Hold Forum on Day Laborer Issue
The day laborers who look for work in downtown Moorpark each morning will be the subject of a public forum Tuesday.
A City Council committee called the meeting to solicit comment on how the city should deal with the laborers. Downtown merchants have often complained that the workers, who gather at the corner of High Street and Spring Road and often number 50, intimidate customers.
City officials have tried to find ways to respond to the complaints while still allowing the men to find work. Employers with construction and landscaping jobs often visit the corner to hire workers for brief jobs.
The forum begins at 7 p.m. at the Moorpark Community Center, 799 Moorpark Ave.
