Party for Medical Resource Foundation
* Local restaurants, wineries and microbreweries will provide the food and drink at a benefit party for the Ventura County Medical Resource Foundation from noon to 4 p.m. today at Lake Casitas outside Ojai. Dog Walk and Run to Aid Special Olympics * Dogs and their human partners are invited to compete in the Dog Day Afternoon walk and run Oct. 6 at Camino Real Park at Varsity Street and Dean Drive to benefit the Ventura County Special Olympics. Registration will begin at 9 a.m. with a dog agility demonstration at 9:30 a.m., the 2-mile run at 10 a.m. and a 1-mile walk at 10:30 a.m. After the race there will be a dog costume contest, a dog-owner look-alike contest and a dog talent contest. Ojai Church Plans Dinner and Musical * St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 185 St. Thomas Drive, Ojai, will host a spaghetti dinner and musical Friday to benefit the St. Vincent de Paul Society programs in the Ojai Valley. Historical Society to Bring Back the 1870s * The Conejo Valley Historical Society will re-create a piece of the 19th century with its dinner-theater production of “An Evening on the Conejo-1876” on the grounds of the Stagecoach Inn Museum, 51 S. Ventu Park Road, Newbury Park. Hear music of the 1870s, meet the original Conejo land barons, listen to ghost stories and visit the first saloon in the Conejo Valley. Caregivers Seeking Items for Rummage Sale * Caregivers, a volunteer organization assisting the area’s homebound seniors, will hold a benefit rummage sale Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 261 N. Golfers to Help Domestic Violence Program * The second annual Women’s Golf Classic, a benefit for the domestic violence programs of Interface Children Family Services, will be held Oct. 7 at Las Posas Country Club, 955 Fairway Drive, Camarillo. Barbecue and Concert for Ojai Family * A barbecue-concert fund-raiser will be held at Lake Casitas Oct. 26 to benefit the family of Shari Askew, an Ojai resident who has been diagnosed with ALS, a progressive, fatal, neuromuscular disease. The event will include a silent auction and boat rides on the lake outside Ojai off California 150.
