On Oct. 6, in the article “A Winning Spirit Pervades Senior Games” your reporter wrote of the Gold Coast Senior Games swimming events held at the Ojai Valley Racquet Club Pool.
You missed a good story right under your nose. The writer of this letter, Clarence Freeman, 80 years of age, swam in every one of the eight events, four freestyle, two backstroke and two breaststroke, a total of 525 yards, and won six gold and two silver medals.
Not only that, in 1987 I had a quadruple heart by-pass operation at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City, and have suffered from chronic asthma for 12 years.
I trained for the meet during the summer program at the Fillmore High School pool where they have a swimming program for the Fillmore youngsters and adult lap swimming three times a week in the evenings. Cindy Blatt and Robert Evans direct this program.
