HUNTINGTON BEACH — Six people suffered minor injuries Thursday in a five-vehicle pileup that apparently was triggered by a driver running a red light, police said.
The accident occurred about 1:50 p.m. when the driver of a pickup truck traveling east on Adams Avenue allegedly ran a red light and broadsided a van heading north on Newland Street, Police Lt. Dan Johnson said.
“The pickup truck spun out of control and hit two other cars,” Johnson said. “The van hit one other car.”
Six people, including two preschool children, were treated for minor injuries, police and paramedics said. Investigators said they plan to cite the pickup driver, who was not identified, for running a red light.
The pickup was loaded with newspapers, which were strewn all over the intersection after the crash, Johnson said. Authorities shut down three lanes as they cleaned up the scene.
