NCAA DIVISION I-AA

* MONTANA (7-0, 4-0) vs. CAL STATE NORTHRIDGE (5-3, 2-2)

At North Campus Stadium, 5:05 p.m.

In facing their biggest challenge of the season, the Matadors also face their greatest opportunity. “If we win this game it will give us national recognition, the whole deal,” said Northridge Coach Dave Baldwin. The Grizzlies are defending Division I-AA national champions and come to Northridge ranked No. 2 in I-AA. Montana’s pass-oriented offense is similar to Northridge’s but has been more effective. The Grizzlies’ 506.7 yards per game rank second in Division I-AA, while Northridge is third at 419.6. Montana sophomore Brian Ah Yat leads the nation in total offense with 378.0 yards per game, including 363.7 yards per game on 60% passing. Montana’s Joe Douglass has 53 catches for 1,071 yards and 14 touchdowns. Northridge will try to keep Montana’s offense off the field with time-consuming drives on the passing of Aaron Flowers, who is on pace to set several school single-season passing records, and the running of Norman Clarke and Chad Marsalek.

DIVISION III

* CAL LUTHERAN (3-3, 2-1) vs. REDLANDS (3-3, 2-0)

At Ted Runner Stadium, Redlands 7 p.m.

Cal Lutheran enters Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with three victories in two weeks. The Kingsmen have a two-game winning streak and picked up a forfeit victory over Chapman a few days ago. Fredrik Nanhed has 241 yards rushing in two games since returning from an injury. Ryan Huisenga directed the Kingsmen to touchdowns on their first three possessions en route to 31-17 victory over Claremont-Mudd last week. Huisenga is third in the SCIAC with 147 yards passing per game. Cal Lutheran ranks third in the conference at 325.5 yards per game. Punter Jeff Shea leads the NCAA Division III with an average of 45.1 yards. Redlands is coming off a bye last week and a 35-10 loss to Azusa Pacific before that. Rino Marconi leads the SCIAC with 232.2 yards of total offense per game, 234.5 yards passing and with a 156.7 passing efficiency rating. He throws to Damian Delfino, who has 33 catches for 572 yards and six touchdowns, Brian Hayes, who has 30 receptions for 318 yards and one touchdown, and Ralph Martinez, 29 for 358 and one touchdown. Cal Lutheran leads the series, 16-8.

JUNIOR COLLEGE

* BAKERSFIELD (5-1, 1-0) vs. GLENDALE (3-3, 1-0)

At Glendale High, 1 p.m.

Glendale has done relatively well against the Renegades, winning three times and tying once in the last nine meetings, including a 2-2 record at Glendale High. The teams are evenly matched in nearly every category, except defense against the run, where Bakersfield gives up 98.8 yards per game and Glendale allows 138.3 yards. Each average 174.8 yards passing and Bakersfield has a 246.0 to 221.0 advantage in yards rushing per game. The Renegades, ranked 10th in the state, are led by Armis Stokes, second in the WSC with 796 yards rushing, and Nathan Sparks, who has passed for 1,021 yards and 13 touchdowns. Glendale’s Aryn Hart has 912 yards passing and eight touchdowns, while Ramone Archie has 675 yards rushing and Rahsaan Harrison has 555 yards.

* ANTELOPE VALLEY (3-3, 2-2) vs. MT. SAN JACINTO (4-2, 3-2)

At Mt. San Jacinto College, 1 p.m.

Antelope Valley is looking to snap a seven-game losing streak on the road dating to 1994. The Eagles lead the Foothill Conference at 245.0 yards rushing per game, with Antelope Valley right behind at 237.2 yards. Mt. San Jacinto is facing the conference’s top defense against the run (74.8 yards per game). Antelope Valley’s Lafayette Bailey, who has 493 yards rushing, and Jamar Day, who has 440, rank second and fourth in the conference. Day carried 19 times for 179 yards and one touchdown in a 22-13 victory over Southwestern last week. Mt. San Jacinto’s Mike Anderson leads the conference with 812 yards rushing. The Marauders have been outscored, 57-27, in the second quarter this season. Antelope Valley leads the series, 18-2.

HIGH SCHOOL

* HARVARD-WESTLAKE (5-2, 2-0) vs. ST. FRANCIS (5-2, 1-1)

At St. Francis High, 7:30 p.m.

Harvard-Westlake is tied for the Mission League lead with Notre Dame, while St. Francis is trying to remain in contention. Both teams like to run the ball with a superior tailback. Robert Milton of St. Francis is among area rushing leaders with 1,156 yards and 10 touchdowns. Harvard-Westlake’s Sam Hornblower has 759 yards and 13 touchdowns.
