Borchard Has Royal Touch For Camarillo
Joe Borchard passed for three touchdowns and ran for two more as Camarillo High routed Royal, 52-7, in a Marmonte League game Friday night at Camarillo.
Borchard, who completed 14 of 22 passes for 177 yards with an interception, hit Justin Howe with 20-yard scoring pass on the Scorpions’ first possession, capping a 70-yard, seven-play drive. Howe had four receptions for 61 yards.
After Charles Sandlin blocked a punt on Royal’s first series, Borchard scampered seven yards for a touchdown on the next play.
After two more touchdowns, the Scorpions (6-2, 5-0) increased their lead to 31-7 as Ryan Geisler connected on 49-yard field goal as the first half ended.
Royal (1-7, 1-4) scored when James Gnesda returned an interception 23 yards late in the first quarter. The Highlanders” Ray Molina led all rushers with 109 yards in 18 carries.
Scorpion receiver Mike Anger caught six passes for 45 yards and two touchdowns. Camarillo scored twice within nine seconds early in the fourth quarter. Andy Kroneburger returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown and Randy Bryce returned an interception 20 yards for another score one play later.
