Re “Sybert Sports Thin Skin, Fierce Drive to Succeed,” Oct. 20.

How to ruin a Sunday morning: read an article that allegedly represents reality but in fact is so biased that it creates a negative, invalid description of an individual one greatly admires.

The article on Rich Sybert presented his strengths (intensity, tenacity, perseverance, commitment, drive to action, excellent writing skills, sense of justice) in a way that would lead a casual reader to possibly perceive them as weaknesses. The article further dwelt on his past and barely touched on his growth and accomplishments of today and recent years.

Yes, Sybert is intense and driven. That intensity compels him to accomplish and to complete what he commits to doing. He does have strong values; he pursues them vigorously. He is not one to simply talk of right-doing; he is one to take action about his concerns.

In this article, The Times has [shown] the ability and willingness of the media to distort facts in a self-serving manner. If your paper and your author take any pride in honest journalism, you will write a subsequent article that describes the value and integrity of Sybert as he is, including commentary from some of his numerous friends and loyal followers.
