Mother Charged in Death of Daughter
WATERBURY, Conn. — A woman was charged with killing her 17-month-old daughter while trying to get her to take some medicine, and an examination revealed that the little girl had been battered and bitten.
Kenya Best, 24, was being held Monday and could face the death penalty if convicted.
The girl, Mahkeva Best, died Thursday after Best and her boyfriend brought her to a hospital. Mahkeva had severe abdominal bruises, two bruises to the head, two broken ribs, internal bleeding and a bite to her left leg. Best admitted tussling with her twice while giving her medicine, and was arrested Friday, police said.
