John J. Maloney; Marathon Bank President
John J. Maloney of Thousand Oaks, president of Marathon National Bank in Los Angeles, died of leukemia Monday at UCLA Medical Center. He was 52.
Maloney was born June 19, 1944, in Youngstown, Ohio. He moved to Ventura County with his family 15 years ago.
“He was a considerate father and husband, and devoted time to both his family and his professional life,” said his son, Michael.
John Maloney attended UC Riverside and UCLA. He earned a law degree from Western State University in 1972 and graduated from the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington in 1981.
He spent his spare time working for the National Guard, and tinkering with computers, cars and audiovisual equipment.
Maloney was affiliated with numerous organizations, including the California Bankers Assn., the Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce and the Beverly Hills Economic Development Council, where he served as chairman of the group’s retention committee. He was also on the board of directors of the Pasadena Philharmonic Orchestra.
In addition to his son, Maloney is survived by his wife, Karon, and his daughter, Carolee, all of Thousand Oaks; his mother, Agnes of Riverside, and two brothers, Pat of Riverside and Jerry of Lake Arrowhead.
A private memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at St. Paschal Baylon Church. Msgr. Peter O’Reilly will officiate.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Brothers Griffin of Thousand Oaks.
