Gang Suspected After Shots Fired at Youths
The calm of a Newbury Park neighborhood was shattered when angry words escalated into gunfire Saturday evening.
No one was injured in the shooting, but authorities are investigating the incident as an attempted murder.
The incident occurred about 6 p.m. when 18-year-old Jason Schrieber of Thousand Oaks and several other youths, allegedly members of a local gang, were visiting a friend at 1663 Calle Diamonte.
While outside the home, the group got into an argument with at least four male youths, allegedly members of a rival gang. Following the exchange of words, several shots were fired at Schrieber and his friends by members of the rival group.
Sheriff’s deputies and a gang suppression unit found several slugs in nearby buildings, and gunshots were heard by several witnesses. Authorities would not disclose the type or number of weapons used in the shooting.
An award of up to $1,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of the suspects by the Ventura County Crime Stoppers.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call (805) 494-TALK in Thousand Oaks and Moorpark, or (805) 987-TALK in Camarillo, Oxnard and Port Hueneme. Callers may remain anonymous.
