ANAHEIM — A Downey woman was critically injured early Monday when the car in which she was riding was rear-ended by a pickup truck, police said.
The woman, whose identification was withheld pending notification of her family, was taken to UCI Medical Center for treatment of severe internal injuries after the 5:54 a.m. accident, said Investigator Rick Alexander of the Anaheim Police Department.
She and the driver of the car, Jesus Estrada, 22, of Hawaiian Gardens, were trapped in the wreckage after the accident, Alexander said. Estrada suffered minor injuries.
The pair were waiting at the intersection of Brookhurst Street and Lincoln Avenue when a pickup traveling between 40 and 45 mph struck their car from behind, Alexander said. The truck driver, Heriberto Perez, 33, of Anaheim, was not cited pending an investigation, Alexander said.
Police are asking any witnesses to the incident to contact Alexander at (714) 254-1861.
