Math professor John Smith is this year’s recipient of Rancho Santiago College’s Distinguished Faculty Award, the school’s highest honor bestowed by colleagues.

As part of the award, Smith, who teaches every level of mathematics offered at the college, will present a lecture titled: “Chaos in Mathematics and the Community Colleges.”

Smith is credited with revamping the college’s math curricula to prepare students better for transferring to the University of California and Cal State University systems, college officials said.
