Chappell, Camarillo Open Up on Glendale

Darian Chappell recorded three 6-0 victories to lead Camarillo to a 17-1 victory over Glendale in the opening round of the Southern Section Division I, Region IV playoffs Thursday at Camarillo.
Chappell defeated Julie Choi, Marcela DeVivo and Ella Barsaghian as the Scorpions (17-1) won eight of nine singles matches and swept the doubles.
In other first-round matches:
DIVISION I, REGION IV
Thousand Oaks 11, Arcadia 7--Angela Chen won three sets by 6-0 scores and the Lancers (13-7) swept nine singles sets at Thousand Oaks.
DIVISION II, REGION IV
Rio Mesa 12, West Torrance 6--Zuzana Stunova swept her singles matches without dropping a game for the Spartans (13-5) at Rio Mesa. Veronica Reynosa also went 3-0 in singles.
DIVISION III, REGION II
Burroughs 18, El Monte 0--Christina Irinco, Shaland Romero and Kristina Mohos each won three sets in a singles sweep by the Indians (16-2) at Burroughs.
Westlake 15, Atascadero 3--Helena Horak and twins Erin and Katy Smith swept singles play for the Warriors (17-4) at Westlake.
DIVISION IV, REGION IV
Calabasas 14, Dos Pueblos 4--Shavane Saedinia (56-1) and Debbie Pepkowitz (54-0) swept for the Coyotes (17-2).
DIVISION V, REGION II
Buckley 11, Marymount 7--Khushchehr Italia went 3-0 in singles for the Griffins (9-6).
DIVISION V, REGION IV
Thacher 13, Oak Park 5--Michelle Kaufman and Mana Aghabarari each won twice, but it wasn’t enough for Oak Park (13-6) against Thacher (14-5).
CITY SECTION 4-A DIVISION
Hamilton 6, Kennedy 1--The No. 2 doubles team of Debbie Tanudech and Rachel Comroe registered the only victory for the Golden Cougars (8-5).
Taft 5, Van Nuys 2--Stephanie Shapiro, Melody Abrams and Helen Le recorded singles victories for Taft (10-4).
Granada Hills 7, University 0--Michelle Heiser, Reina Kobayashi, Karen Fung and Stacy Takayama swept for the Highlanders (14-0).
Palisades 7, North Hollywood 0--The top-seeded Dolphins play Taft on Tuesday.
