City Hopes to Raise Funds for Library
City Council members said this week that they hope to launch a fund-raising campaign to keep the Mary Wilson branch library open five days a week.
After learning that as much as $88,000 in cutbacks proposed by the Orange County Public Library will force the branch to open only four days a week instead of five, council members said they hope to help raise funds in the community to keep the branch operating.
“There needs to be a community effort. The city can’t step in and be responsible for the Orange County library system. We can be partners with the community,” Mayor Gwen Forsthye said.
The Friends of the Library have scheduled a meeting for 7 p.m. Dec. 5 in the Senior Center, 707 Electric Ave., to discuss the possibility of a community effort.
